5One of the best Future-based Multiplayer First Person ShootersFeb 07, 2008
By David A. Wintle "bibliophile par excellence"
This is simply a fantastic game. I've played BF2, but I love BF2142. An extremely active gaming community exists centered around this game. The graphics are not bleeding edge like those in Crysis, but that just means that you'll be able to play it on a reasonably current computer (even laptops). The true squad based team play is the best I've experienced to date. The game is played through four (3) different game types: Conquest Mode, Titan Mode, Assault Lines Mode. The Titan Mode is truly a new experience as not only is there a "capture the flag" (in this case missile silos) type model, but it also incorporates an alternate method for defeating the enemy faction by assaulting and boarding the enemy Titan and destroying from the inside by detonating the Reactor Core.

The gaming community that I've found to be the best is called "Texas...Teamplayers..." This is an extremely active community site that hosts several online games, of which BF2142 is one. The site also host multiple gaming clans. If you decide to purchase this game (and I strongly recommend that you do if online shooters are your thing) check out "Texas...Teamplayers..." at http://www.texasteamplayers.com. As I said, this is probably the best Gaming community site out there when it comes to Battlefield 2142, Battlefield 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter Strike: Source, Arm A, Call of Duty 4, Day of Defeat: Source, and the Battlefield 2: Project Reality modification. All game servers are ranked and many of the games also have practice servers available for trying out new strategies and tactics.

4Great game but NS activation code is missing!Feb 23, 2008
By Moha
I'm playing this game since it came out it's just great, I bought it to play northern strike booster pack since I didn't bought it through EA Link software.

NOTICE: theres a major issue with this release, no one that has bought Battlefield 2142 Deluxe has been able to play northern strike booster pack because activation code is missing. I were in contact with EA Support and forums as well a week ago, it's seems no resolution yet for issue. It's EA fault as usual.

Please be aware that you can play Battlefield 2142 original maps except NS booster pack maps.

EDIT: EA told me that I can activate Northern Strike booster pack by using Battlefield 2142 CD Key which it available on the back of manual, and it's work for me.

3Great Game BUT.....................................Jul 04, 2008

Buyer Beware!!!

This deluxe edition claims to have the booster pack Northern Strike as well but either this is not the case or EA has some serious problems here. Just search the internet and you will find numerous threads on this issue with the game deluxe edition.

In short, the game installs fine claiming that you are getting both the orginal version as well as the booster pack. However, once you are done activating and registering your account you can ONLY play the orginal BF2142 maps with no issues. But once you try to access any of the Northern Strike booster pack maps the game acts like you dont have the booster pack installed and directs you to EA link to purchase it even though the deluxe edition should have installed the booster pack already. I have sent lots of emails to EA but all i am getting are useless automated or cut & paste responses. As of now there is no real resolution to this issue. If EA helps me out I will update my post otherwise think before buying.

Other than that an awesome game. The titan mode is the real winner here. I have been involved in some serious fights around and inside the Titan for supermacy. You have 14 maps of intense battles and the game rewards the players who played the most with more effective weapons as well as armor unlocks and a persistent talent system. I will however, seriously recommend all newbies(until you have unlocked some weps and armor too) to stick with armored vehicles and only try to engage one-on-one if you have the advantage or are in a group. Otherwise you will be relentlessly farmed by players who have uber weapons than you for a very long time.

3Battlfield 2142: the truthApr 19, 2009
By T-1000
The truth is this may be my favorite game of all time...to play. It's possibly my least favorite game to fix, troubleshoot, install, uninstall, search for patches on the web and struggle to get to tech support through the house of horrors EA website. I love it. I hate it.

Titan mode, online squads, ranking and medals are fast paced, skill based, and addictive. Add voice (use Xfire, not Teamspeak, which is much more technical and less intuitive), and you can establish real comraderie with people you've just met online. You can even choose, and move back and forth continuously, between ground or air based combat. Truly challenging and satisfying when you develop the skills.

However, I've never seen a game with more bugs and software failure than this. It's simply disgusting and shameful that DICE and EA put this game out there in the shape they did. After four huge patches the game is in a state that it should have been BEFORE it was released. These two companies should be ashamed. Add in the hysterically difficult navigation to EA's website for tech support and the overall useless response you get you could go crazy trying to get this game to work.

Problem is, you do because when BF2142 works it's soooo good. Yes, there should be a 2142 sequel that emphasizes future combat. Not another tired return to WWII combat like BF3 promises to be, even if it's with updated graphics, etc. And, EA, are you listening? Please don't enslave us with more treks through the Internet to find all the patches that we shouldn't have to download. Try auto downloads like with the Steam service, or real quality and finishing in a game like BioShock, which released a single patch but didn't really need to because is was so smooth and bug free. And streamline your website. You could remove half the content and we'd actually get to more of it since we wouldn't get lost and dizzy and confused. Before you do anything, ask yourself, is this going to waste somebody's time?

So, there you have it. EA and DICE deserve all the praise and credit they've gotten for their technical vision...and EVERY BIT OF CRITICISM for the sloppy, buggy, hack vulnerable, crappy condition they released it in. The truth hurts. And it should.

5Epic gameDec 24, 2009
By Suzette L. Stutzman
WARNING: in order to 'level up' your soldier in BF 2142 you need access to the internet, and the ability to play on online servers. Online play is COMPLETELY free, but if you want to unlock new weapons and other items, you need to play online. If you don't care about leveling up, then you can still do great single player without it.

I did have one problem with a feature called PunkBuster on Windows 7. If you are using Windows 7, you will need to download and install this update so that you can play online. [...]

This game is great. Let me point out that the graphics are decent, but will still play on older computers without any lag. I have owned this game for about a month now, and I love it. My brother and I play LAN on it (LAN is where you play with/against another computer in your home network, you need two copies for this (one for each computer) and it is really amazing).

Overall the gameplay is amazing, the battle sequences are epic, but there is a learning curve involved with this game. Even the easiest difficulty for the computer players was too difficult for my first battle, but once you understand the objective of the game, winning is a snap. GREAT GAME and a GREAT BUY.
