Don't miss out on this gem of a game!Jun 18, 2010 Kirby Air ride is easily the best Nintendo spin-offs ever released. Although the game was obviously targeted at casual gamers and young children, Kirby Air ride is a never the less a great game to play with friends, regardless of your age.
Controls
Controls for the game are extremely simple. You are not required to hold down any button to move, the Air ride machine will automatically accelerate as soon as you get on it. You control the machine by tilting the joystick the direction you want it to go. If you hold down the A button your machine will stop moving and charge up. When you release the A button you will get a boost of speed. You can also tap or hold down the A button to use an item or suck in an enemy. The C-stick can also be used to change the camera angle. Apart from that, the game does not require you to use any other buttons. I thought the controls were a little bit too simple. I didn't like the fact that the machine moves forward by itself as it makes it harder to pick up power ups. I also thought that different items should use different buttons of the controller in a more creative way. For example you could charge up a bolt of lightning by rapidly pressing the L and R buttons or shoot fire by pressing tapping the B button.
Gameplay
There are several different modes of Kirby Air ride. They are Air ride, Top ride and City trial. In Air ride, you can play as Kirby or if you unlock them, Meta Knight and King Dedede. You race through a colorful course that has enemies scattered across it. As Kirby, you can suck in enemies and copy their ability. Some enemies can cause you speed up while others can give you an item to attack your opponents with. Because the only way you can slow down is by coming to a complete halt, you often bump into walls while going around corners which can slow you down. Although the race tracks are well designed, this mode of Kirby Air ride can't match up to games like Mario Kart or Need 4 Speed. The second mode of the game, Top Ride is my least favorite. You have a bird's eye view of the short and simple course below you. The course is scattered with different power ups and it's quite easy to get turned around or stuck on corners. There are only two machine to choose from. The next mode, City Trial is pretty much the only mode worth playing, but it's a lot of fun. You are given a time limit any you must race around a large stage and collect power ups, such as better speed, turning ect. Air ride machines are littered all over the course and you must find the best one that suits you. You can also attempt to destroy your opponents vehicles (quite fun to do with friends) or collect all three parts of one of the "Legendary Air Ride Machines", Hydra or Dragoon, both of which are much faster and more powerful that the normal machine. If you do succeed in collecting all the parts you will be allowed to race in that machine for the remainder of the round, this can prove quite and assistance in helping you win. To keep the game interesting, random things occur in the city such as a meteor storm, fire, or an appearance of a UFO, covered in power ups. When the time limit is up, the games pits you in a contest against the other players. It is here that your power ups will become of use. There are many different competitions such as a demolition derby or a race in one of the Air rides courses. Overall, City Trial is really fun. The City where it takes place has many different places to explore, from a platform floating in the sky, to the cave under the volcano.
All in all, although Kirby Air ride isn't a bad game to play by itself it's much more fun with a friend. I recommend this game for anyone looking for a simple racing game or just a game the whole family can enjoy.
Kirby Air RideJul 25, 2009 It was an entertaining game with lots of races. My son has a WII, but will always go back to Game Cube. He was very happy to have gotten it. Kirby's is one of his favorites.
Best Racing Game EverJul 03, 2009 Kirby Air Ride is easily the best racing game I have ever played. In fact,it far surpasses games like Mario Kart. It doesn't matter that the graphics and sound are slightly below average, this game is just plain fun and nothing else. No game I have ever played has better replay value, I got this game over 5 years ago and it still entertains me today. Its three modes of gameplay are so good, they could all stand as games on there own. The injustice, underappreciation, and insults Kirby Air Ride has suffered at the hands of critics is appalling! To say that Air Ride is mediocre is like saying "Super Mario Galaxy sucks" or "Mario 64 and Zelda Ocarina of Time are the worst Nintendo 64 games". If Kirby Air Ride, the best game on Gamecube is mediocre, then every Gamecube game is mediocre or worse! This is one of the top 3 greatest games of all time in my opinion.

Kirby air ride.Jul 01, 2009 This is the only Kirby game for the GC, and it is great. Its not like other kirby games. Its racing and u r kirby that rides on this platform. U can race either on multiplayer which if u go into the city its kind of like freeride. It is fun to just mess around on multiplayer and see what u can do. The graphics r really good for the GC and the sound is like other GC games. The controls r good and easy to use. This is a great game on multiplayer or single player.
