5Much More Than Just a MLB Game: Its a Baseball Fan's Dream!Mar 03, 2006
By Dmitry Kristal
Do you like baseball? Do you own a PSP? Do you wish you could play the game and keep up with MLB stories all in one tiny package? If you answered "YES" to all 3 of the questions, there is a good chance that this is A-Must for your PSP library.

The old-school modes are all in here: Exhibition, Season, Home Run Derby. Now I'm sure that most gamers are very familiar with these modes, so there is no point of wasting time. Instead, here are the features that some of you might not have faced before:

NEW CAREER MODE: Design a player that resembles who you are; all the way from body fitness to facial hair. You even get to pick your walk-up-to-the-plate-music! Then give him the initial attributes from the limited points pool. Pick a number, any number. And finally, pick a team that you want to play for. Congrats! You are about to start off in a spring training. However, you can't be a superstar overnight. You have to train your player through numerous "drills" by picking your training sessions wisely. Next, you must show your manager that you are worthy of a contract: You don't decide if you play for the team--THE MANAGER does. Play well in the Spring Training and the minors(REAL TRIPLE-A team and logos!!!) and you just might get called up to the majors. Build your player's skills and start your Hall Of Fame career. Negotiate contracts, complain to the coaches, talk to the media about your teammates. However, if you talk too much, your team will hate you for being a distration.

GRAPHICS/SOUND: 3-man play-by-play is hardly repetitive and on the spot most of the time. The players' faces and batting stances are life-like because baseball players were used to make this title. Ballparks are ralistic replicas!

SOUNDTRACK: Awesome! It has about 15 tracks and has everything: hip-hop, rock, country and even latin.

GAMEPLAY/CONTROLS: Unlike many vintage titles, you can no longer cheaply steal bases. The glitch is long fixed. Computer AI is very intelligent with every skill level: rookie, veteran, all-star and hall-of-fame. Realistic player stances, signature bat swings and diving catches. Pitching is well-tuned as well: Now there is "Confidence Meter" which is very realistic. If the pitcher's confidence is low, expect more wild pitches and meatballs.

GLITCHES/ERRORS: I did notice a few nonsense calls at times here and there, but they occur rarely. For example, I had a man on 3rd and 2nd with 2 outs; the batter hit a ground ball, the shortstop threw the ball to 3rd base for the force-out. This might be an error or who knows, may be a blown call by the ump, which is the part of the game. Some occasional stutters from the announce team as when a triple play occured, they referred to it as "Double Play."

ONLINE: There are 3 parts of online play. The first on is the opportunity for you to update the roster during the season as players gets called up, traded, released, etc... The second feature is on-the-go news for all of you wireless users. Get your team's news right to your PSP for FREE!!! The last part is the head-to-head feature. Its a good idea, however, at the time I am writing this review(3/1/06) there is plenty of lag and chopiness to go around. Unlike EA servers, you can't tell if your opponent is a cable user or 56k user(no ping indication.) Therefore, before playing, you either have to guess and assume that they have a high-speed, take their word for it or simply decide to put up with lag and chopiness. The rating system is awkward as the players actually rate each other at the end of the game. I have also picked up a few exploits right away: Because of chopiness, players will likely to swing at anything, including pitchouts! Hopefully, the servers will improve.

Bottom Line: If you are a baseball fan who loves video games, BAG IT! If you're not a hardcore baseball fan, you should still be able to enjoy the title and it's features.

4A Pretty Flawless Baseball Title for the PSPMar 04, 2006
By Cale E. Reneau "audiooverflow.com"
This is a great game. I really can't stress it anymore than the other reviewer, but I though I'd throw my two cents in. Rather than go on and on, let me just hit the main points.

GOOD:
-Amazing video quality, something that many PSP games lack severely. This game's graphics are about as good as you can expect to have on a sports game for PSP. No complaints.

-Online INFRASTRUCTURE Mode. If you're like me, it's not all that convenient for you to play online with your PSP since a large majority of its games are only Ad-Hoc compatible (WI-FI). With this game you can get online using any wireless router, which is great. And it's fun to play online vs. other people and look at the record boards.

-The Price: $39.99 is a great value!

BAD:
-The pitching takes a while to get used to. If you've never played an MLB game before, like me, you will probably have trouble. The instructions in the manual are pretty vague, as are the in-game tips, but you'll figure it out after about a half-hour of tinkering.

-Load Times are absolutely horrendous, as is the problem with most PSP games. On my PSP, it takes about 45 seconds to load a game, which is ages.

Honestly, this is probably the most entertaining and COMPLETE baseball game I've ever played. There are so many modes to enjoy that it would be really hard to experience everything this game has to offer in a few weeks. The replay value is great, and career mode just really takes the cake. Buy it now, baseball fans. You won't regret it.

5the best sports game ever for PSP!!!Mar 05, 2006
By John E. Grace II
First let me say this game is the best sports game ever for PSP. the grafics are as good as they get all the way down to the players batting stances and pitching motions. Last year I played MVP and Pudge had 75 homeruns. Not in this game player ratings are right on, which makes the game dead on for the true baseball fanatics. The only small thing is the load time, but I can live with it because the play is so real, and realistic every game is like this on the PSP.

5Best Baseball Game I have PlayedApr 19, 2006
By C. Angel "americanpride"
Great Graphics. Great control. Multiplayer over the internet is way too cool! Homerun Derby is better than most games and the Diamonds minigame is fun. The career mode is great.

The only downside I can find is that load times can be a bit long sometimes...but nothing that takes away from the fun of the game.

Overall, this game is an absolute must for PSP owners who love to play baseball.

5Beware!Apr 21, 2006
By K. Williby
You will invest hours of your time and battery life playing this game non-stop. Hands-down the most realistic and enjoyable baseball game yet, on any platform. The umpire sometimes gives bad calls, sometimes they swing your way, sometimes not. The batting stances and pitching styles are totally accurate, as well as the ball parks. The levels of difficulty make the game either very simple, or extremely challenging to the point where you have to aim where you want your bat to go in the strike zone, and at what intensity while you're swinging and trying to identify the pitch. Awesome game, I strongly recommend it!
