Blue skies shining at me in my Ferrari!May 02, 2006
By Jon Folkers What a beautiful little game! This is a minature, updated version of "Outrun 2," which originally appeared on the arcade and XBOX about two years ago. It's a 20th-anniversary homage to the 1986 game "Outrun," which was the first driving game to feature real force-feedback steering. The arcade machine's steering wheel had a powerful motor in it which would pull your hands the other way as you went around tight turns. The PSP version doesn't have that (imagine the impact on battery life?!) but the graphics, sound, music, and gameplay are intact.
This, like its predecessors, is arcade racing in its purest form. If you want to tweak your car by buying new exhaust pipes or pimp it out with new rims and flame paint, you'd best look elsewhere. This is about driving someone else's Ferrari very, very quickly down the expressway, watching the scenery blur past, slowing down only to take the bend in the road to the next leg of your destination. Your lady friend is along for the ride and will find all sorts of interesting tasks for you to do while you motor around together.
There's also a PS2, PC, and XBOX version of this game. Is it worth getting again if you've already played the XBOX version of "Outrun 2?" Does it offer anything over "Outrun" the Sega Ages disc we saw back on the Sega Saturn ten years ago?
I'd say yes. First of all, the asking price is about 3/5 that of other new games for the PSP. Second, it's portable, very much unlike the XBOX or arcade version. Third, and most importantly, the "2006 Coast to Coast" name justifies purchasing this version even if you already have the XBOX game, since a whole lot of fun new modes and features were added, most importantly a "slipstream" technique which allows you to draft behind other cars to pick up speed.
Finally, there's an online mode. Won't you buy this game and so I have some other people to race against? It's a pity that this game isn't getting much press or retail attention. It might even be hard to find.

OutRun... On the ROAD!May 19, 2006
By Reid Cooper I absolutely love OutRun and being able to slam onto the road with a ferrari while riding the subway and the bus makes this one of the perfect games for my PSP. I don't just want to RACE... I was to DRIVE FAST and have fun while doing it and with a girl by my side!

Good - but not great. 7/10Nov 13, 2007

I'd place this game on a par with Ridge Racer. The graphics are appealing, but frankly the PSP can do better - and has on games such as Burnout or Wipeout. The music is a mixed bag. A few of the driving tunes are rocking, but some are downright annoying. The steering controls are a bit sloppy, but you can make do.
Overall Outrun is good, but not great. If you just want some simple minded arcade style racing, Outrun will do the trick.

A very underated gameAug 05, 2006

I seem to recal seeing only one ad, in a magazine, for OutRun 2006 Coast 2 Coast. Then, I heard nothing. I thought that the game had been cancelled then I saw it at EB games in the clearance bin.
After I bought it I was amazed that it had gotten no press what so ever. The graphics were crisp and clean, it sounded great, fairly simple controls, and it only cost me 15 dollars. There are loads of unlockables and I found the game very addictive. Drifting and drafting added to the overal fun of the game. But all is not well in the world of OutRun.
Although online mode is included, I have never used it. Not because I didn't want, but because I couldn't. Due to the lack of press, virtually nobody bought this game, meaning nobody uses the online mode.
Oh well, the game itself is great and very fun. I recommend this to anyone that likes racing games. This is truly a great title for the PSP. (I also highly recommend Burnout Legends, which is just slightly better than OutRun, slightly.
Gameplay: 4 out of 5

Arcade racing on the best systemDec 06, 2006

I don't think that this is really worth playing on the bigscreen. Arcade racers are slowly fading away for overly technical, confusing, hard racers such as Forza that take too much time to complete. These games are just fun, there's no worrying about tuning your car, and there's no boring race tracks where you race across totally generic race t racks that you wouldn't pay a dime to see in real life. Just put it in, turn it on, and race race race!!!!!!
On the PSP, it's a great racing game. On the go, you really don't have time to tune your car and race through long championships like you would at home. YOu want a game that is, fast, easy to play, and is fun but engaging enough to keep your attention (Im talking about great games like Lumines and GTA PSP, which GTA PSP is great to just drive around and kill for ten minutes). This game is a great game for racing fans who yearn for the days where you drove around those fantasy tracks and raced around the world. THis game has those days.
For starters, this game is a little slim on content, but that's just fine. THere's more than enough modes to keep you busy. The classic Outrun gameplay is intact, where you go through five seperate stages to an endpoint. There's no customizations either, so I repeat that, so go somewhere else racing buffs. The impress your girlfriend mode is also here, and that's about it. Sure, seems a little slim, but the racing can stand on it's own. Plus, the tracks are a real treat, as there are no repeated. Ever got a racing game that gives you similar tracks? Yeah I hate those too. The fact is that the tracks are all different enough to be seperate, and with thirty stages, the game definitly offers variety. DOn't expect to find a recreation of Miami like GTA Vice city, the cartoonish look is intact, but it's actually pretty damn good looking. SOme of the tracks sport different looks. They are all based on different locations, such as Machu Picho, Easter Island (complete with those statues), even a Blair Witch Project inspired forest. It's all great stuff, not realistic, but fun. You won't find any building you can drive into, but who needs that.= Building interiors aren't really seen dyring this generation (Full Auto though, has alot of great interiors). Music is great too, but the sound effects are okay. They get the job done, but nothing really stand out as much as some sound effects in a game do (racing gears advance actually had decent sound effects).
Also, the Ferrari's are great. Ferrari's are basically the only car that is featured in this game, but since those cars are hardly ever seen in racing games, this game rules. These days, the only cars really seen are those damn rice rockets. There's a great selection, and of course, there is the legendary Enzo. The cars look great, and they are fun to drive. Not many racing games feature Ferrari's (Have no idea why though).
Also, the game works well on the PSP. COntrols are great, load times are really great as well. So basically, this game runs fantastic on the PSP, and the format works really well. It may seem like I am just slapping this on to my review, but it's a tidbit that all PSP players want, to know if it works well on the PSP (as you know, too many sloppy ports hold back a majority of the games for getting great scores). I say that this is best for PSP. No questions asked.
Too bad this game is overlooked, because it's a great game that reminds people what racing games are really about. Racing, powersliding, and having fun. Tuning just feels like a chore. If you like your racing games fun and down to the ground, you can't go wrong witht this fantastic game.
PS don't think im bashing Forza. I like those technical racers because I liek reacing games, but most people are not very interested in tuning their cars. They want something that's fun. This is the game.
