The Classic Rayman!Aug 31, 2000
By Kevin T. Rodriguez

This game might be 2D, about 4 years old (This game premeared on Sega Saturn), and the idea is kinda strange, but this is a GREAT game! At first it starts out quite easy (You'll beat the first 5 levels in less than 2 minutes) but soon you're wondering if there is a way to beat the game. Heck, before you know it you'll buy the stratigy guide to try and figure out what to do next. This game has given me more of a challange in gaming than Lara Croft did in Tomb Raider. I highly recomend this game. Now where is a copy for Dreamcast? Huh, Sega?

A magical little platformerMar 01, 2000
Rayman's a total trip! Sure, the graphics aren't 3D, but the animation is beautiful! The gameplay is very good as well, with solid control and plenty of fun tasks such as finding captive energy bits and one-ups. If you're a fan of this sort of game, regardless of age, you'll love Rayman! Heck, it's four years old, and I'm STILL playing it!

Sidescrollers on the PS1 don't get much better than this!Mar 10, 2005
By Adam Sims Rayman is a classic game released in the Playstation's early years. And it's still a great game!
Gameplay:10/10: Sidescrolling joy! You are Rayman, an armless, legless, neckless thingy, who has to save his world after the evil Mr. Dark takes over it. You will need to free your caged friends in all of the huge worlds to get to Mr. Dark's layer. You also get powers, such as punching, helicopter, and more! You also fight tough bosses like Space Mama!
Challange:10/10: It's HARD! And only 5 continues! But here's a hint: If you have less than 3 continues, press up, down left, and right on the continue screen to get 10 extra continues!
Graphics: 10/10: They are colorful, and I mean COLORFUL! Bright, cartoonlike 2D graphics. The best of the PS's 2D graphics!
Sound: 9/10: It sounds great!
Music: 10/10: I love the music. My favorite tune is the music on certai levels on the Cave of Skops!
So if you have a PS, and are looking for a chalanging sidescroller, look no further!

excellent but a real challengeNov 27, 2001
By nicole Rayman was our first Playstation game. It kept us entertained (and frustrated at times!) for hours on end. It starts out easy, but it doesn't last for long! The 2nd Rayman was easier and even more fun. You might want to try the Spyro series, too.

The Best Of An Extinct Species.Nov 05, 2001
The "next generation" systems (Playstation and Sega Saturn) ushered in a new era. With their release, we saw a new type of game we had never seen before. Suddenly, we were able to move freely in 3-D and experience new worlds. Sadly, with this new era of gaming, we also witnessed the end of the genre that had, at one time, ruled the industry; we saw the death of the 2-D platformer. I grew up in the '80's with Mario and friends, and fell in love with the platformer. That is why I must recommend, with all of my heart, Rayman. This is, without a doubt in my mind, the best platform experience I have ever been a part of. I say this because when you play Rayman, you will become immersed in it. The graphics are superb and wonderfully colorful, and they definitely show the best of the dying tradition of hand-drawn, 2-dimensional characters. The control for this game is so tight that Rayman becomes one with you. The music and sound effects are also wonderful and are well-suited to this game's zany atmosphere. The level design is ingenious in this game and the challenge level is very high. It is very challenging, but it is also a game that you will want to experience again and again. I have to wonder why designers simply forgot about the 2-D genre, because with more games like Rayman, it could rule the industry once again. Buy this game and treat yourself to the finest 2-D experience ever created.
