Gameplay, Graphics, and Challenge are all awsome in Tomb RaiNov 16, 1999
For the money, Tomb Raider is the best game you will ever play. No matter how good of a game player you are, controlling Lara Croft as she ventures through different worlds and enviornments while she does back flips, swan dives, and hand-stands is challenging and fun to say the least. Or how about fighting T-Rex while you're at it.... If you are a serious game player, do yourself a favor and play this game. You will not regret it.

The Original and still the Best.May 04, 2001
Tomb Raider is easily one of the greatest games you could buy for the sony playstation. This game introduced me to the world of 3-D gaming. I remember the first time I played it and being in awe of the graphics and gameplay. The sense of the location's space and dimension in which you play in was remarkable for it's time (the sequels have since improved on these features, if not in atmosphere and story). What makes me enjoy this game more than any of the sequels is it's atmosphere and locales. You the player must guide Lara Croft -archeologist/adventurer extraordinaire, through dark caves, ancient tombs and temples and palaces in search of the fabled Atlantean Scion. Hot on your tail are Natla and her squad of goons who wish to obtain the scion for their own nefarious reasons. Locations include Peru, where you will traverse through the ancient city of Vilcabamba and a lost valley of Dinosaurs, The ancient ruins of Greco-Roman temples and collosseums, an Ancient Egyptian city complete with sphynxes and traps galore, and finally the lost continent of Atlantis inhabited by nightmarish creatures. This is a game in which you can immerse yourself in for days on end. I highly recommend it.

A Playstation classic!Nov 25, 1999
Ah, the game that launched Lara Croft's career. When I first played Tomb Raider I was astounded at the sheer size of the virtual game world created by the software masters at Core Design. With at least 40-60 hours of gameplay to offer, Tomb Raider is every adventure game player's dream. And since it sells for less than $20, it is an incredible bargain as well. This game deserves a place in every Playstation gamer's library.

An Outstanding Game Certainly to Become a ClassicJun 10, 2002
By Chris W. From the ruins of Rome to the futuristic setting of Atlantis, Tomb Raider takes the gamer through a variety of wonderful worlds. Unlike its sequels, it stays in the tombs and out of other settings. I believe that it is one of the best games ever made, and it certainly is a classic. However, I believe that its sequels in many aspects overshadow it. The scenery in Tomb Raider is better than most games, although it is mostly cubed and flat. The game play and plot are wonderful, and the graphics and sounds are acceptable. However, the artificial intelligence enemies are less than intelligent, and the gamer is often left feeling underestimated with the ease of some of the puzzles. Laura's moves are limited, and the weapons supply is less than perfect. I would recommend this game to any fan of the Tomb Raider series and to the average gamer. However, I do feel that other versions have better qualities. Tomb Raider II offers wonderful AI and is perhaps the best for a gamer seeking combat. Tomb Raider III combines the better aspects of the previous two, and Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation offers the best plot and character mobility. If you are looking to stay in the tombs, or if you are not into puzzles, stick with this game. However, don't miss out on the other great qualities the Tomb Raider series offers.

Tomb Raider (1996)Jan 21, 2006
TOMB RAIDER is one of the best video games of all time, and after ten years is very well-known and loved. It introduced gamegoers to Lara Croft, the pistol-blasting archaeologist who in each of her adventures goes in search of rare artifacts and gets into alot of trouble.
Our heroine, Miss Croft, is hired by her boss, Natla, to find a mysterious artifact. Lara gets right on the job, unaware that Natla is also after the artifact and is bent on killing Lara if she gets in the way.
It was rare to find a 3D game back in the day, but TOMB RAIDER is a 3D game. The graphics are dated and pretty bad by todays standards. Items appear flat/squashed and even turn around if you run around them! There is little detail on the walls and floors either. However, Lara's movements are very realistic; unlike even games of today, you have to make a 90 degree turn to turn around. You don't just press the down button on your pad and you are immediately facing the other direction. Lara's speed is also very realistic.
The game is much fun with alot of action and some intriguing puzzles inbetween. Lara is able to swim, jump and hang from ledges. You can collect a number of guns throughtout the game including magnums and shotguns. Towards the end, there is even some blood and violence which may satisfy alot of people.
Another interesting thing is that your heart will be racing in certain parts of this game. When the scary music starts and when dogs and wolves jump out of nowhere, you'll be screaming. I can even remember how terrifying it was when I heard the BOOM-BOOM of the T-Rex's footsteps in Level 3.
Overrall, the original TOMB RAIDER is a classic game - action-packed, addictive, intelligent, etc. The graphics aren't very good, but it doesn't matter.
