1One of the Worst Wrestling Games EVERNov 12, 2001
By R. Riemensnyder
(Bad) graphics, limited match options, no create-a-wrestler mode, and confusing gameplay. That's what WCW NITRO brings to the table, folks. This game has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Don't waste your money. If you want to play a fun wrestling game on your Playstation, buy the first or second Smackdown game. This one just isn't worth your time.

2One of THQ's Weaker EffortsSep 07, 2001
By Kanku
After playing WCW Nitro in it's entirety I've come to one conclusion; this is a bad game. THQ, usually known for quality games, really show that this is one of their beginning efforts on the playstation. So many problems keep this game from being a top notch wrestling game. But let's start with the positives. There are a ton of hidden characters. Okay, that's it for the pros. The flaws in this game however are abundant. The graphics are way behind the curve and make the game seem childish. It looks as if you are using a cartoon as a wrestler. It isn't realistic at all. To add to the childish graphics is the childish gameplay. This game is just a bunch of mindless button mashing and that is what you have to resort to to makes it easy. There is also a serious lack of depth to this game. You only have a smal amount of modes to select fromwhich makes the game boring after you've beaten it. This creates a lack of replay value. The only thing keeping you coming back are the cooky hidden characters you unlock. The only reason I didn't fail this game completely is because of the hidden characters and the fact that it was created in 1998 ,but that is still no excuse in light of the fact that such excellent games such as Resident Evil 2 and Metal Gear Solid were released that year. If you HAVE to play this game, rent it before you purchase it. You'll see what I mean.

you cant pick up any weapons and their is hardly any commentary and you dont see the wrestlers come out, all you see is their picture. I would avoid this game.

1DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!Apr 23, 2000

Before going into this review, i might as well get the messageover and done with: DON'T BUY THIS GAME! It's very, very bad.

Havingsaid that I'm sure you probably want to know why, so let me explain. WCW Nitro is a wrestling game based on the WCW (which has very few fans compared to the WWF) and has a selection of different rings available and has most of the WCW superstars along with their own short video. Nothing sounds too offensive yet, but these 5 sec videos are the most entertaining thing in the WHOLE GAME and it's the execution that totally kills the whole thing! The animation of the wrestlers is horrendous, some of the worst I've ever seen. You can barely make out at all who they're meant to be and they're skin color is all orange. When the camera zooms out at the end, the wrestlers look bigger than the ring, so the perspective is all wrong, too. The crowd is a mess of grey pixels jumping up and down. It looks so bad it has to be seen to be believed. It also sounds dire, with terrible music and no commentary.

However, the shocking graphics and sound are the least of WCW Nitro's worries. The gameplay is so slow and so frustrating that makes it painful to play. There are only about 5 moves for your player, all of which are the same on every wrestler and can only be triggered by battering at the buttons. 99% of the time it doesn't work as your opponent seems to have some super powers over you. You get pinned in about 30 seconds. The only way to even figure out how to work the controls is to take the 2P option by yourself and try it on the other player. If you manage one move you're almost gauranteed you'll never do it again.

So got the message? Let me tell you now that this is easily the worst game I've ever played...

2THQ's second WCW gameJan 25, 2009
By arturo olivo
I believe this is the second game THQ released the first being WCW vs The World for PS1. Seeing how Nintendo got WCW/NWO World Tour and WCW Revenge made me upset that Sony got this garbage instead. Back then I used to enjoy WCW Nitro with its bad graphics and controls but now if I were play it I would hate it. I bought it for[...]when it became a GH just because I rented it and was a huge fan of WCW at the time. It has a huge roster and unlockable characters and exhibition modes plus a career mode. Its a fast action game similar to WWF Smackdown! but the controls are kinda bad and lose and not tight like other wrestling games. You can have one on one, tag team, two on one, three on one, and battle royal. You get WCW Nitro, Halloween Havoc, Great American Bash, Starcade, Springstamped, Uncensored, as PPV you can fight in. You can't go backstage and the commentary is just one line delivered from Tony, Brian, and Lee Marshall so its not on going only when you do a move or pin someone.
