5This is a must haveJul 09, 2004
By G. Bongiovanni
I owned the first Logitech Cordless Controller for the Xbox and thought I would never replace it, but think again. This controller is amazing. Not only can you walk to the other side of the room or relax while playing without cords it never misses a beat. The size is significantly smaller than the first controller making it easier to hold. Anyone who owns an Xbox must purchase this amazing product.

4Perfect Except for One Revenue-Generating FlawJan 31, 2005
By Jay Kelly
My experience with this controller has been nearly flawless. Wireless beats wired up and down the field, and there is simply ZERO lag with this controller. None. No complaints at all with button or d-pad sensitivity, but perhaps I am not the connessieur that other reviewers are. The smaller controller makes for a different, but qualitatively equal, experience than the standard XBox controller.

HOWEVER I have this against you, Logitech: You conveniently neglected to include a headset slot on the controller. Since my constant play of Ghost Recon 2 on XBox Live is threatening to cause my early exit from graduate school, this brother NEEDS a headset. But this leaves me with only two options:

1) Get really, really close to the tv screen, which my momma told me never to do.

OR

2) Buy a wireless headset from--wait a minute!--from LOGITECH! Funny how that works out. I wonder if that crossed the minds of any of the execs at Logitech when they were designing this little beauty? Nah, probably not. I'm sure this is an oversight that will be corrected with their next-gen wireless controller.

So now I have to decide whether to buy 2 or 3 used games OR a wireless headset. I think I'll risk the vision impairment and sit close to the screen . . .

Bottom Line: PERFECT wireless controller. SNEAKY design by Logitech.

(I really, really apologize for using the words 'connessieur' and 'qualitatively' in a review of a video game controller. It won't happen again, I promise.)

4Cordless QualityOct 28, 2004
By Earl P. Thayton
I bought two of these controllers, and I have been using them heavily, mostly playing Burnout 3. I thought the previous version, the bigger one that took 4 batteries, was a good product, but this new model is definitely an improvement, fitting the hand a bit better. Most importantly I have never experienced any problems with the response or wireless signal. This really is as good as a corded controller!

The batteries seem to last quite a while too. I didn't get the 50 hours listed in the product specs, but I did get almost 40, which is still really good in my book. (I was using alkalines. I don't know if it will work with rechargeables, which typically have a slightly lower voltage even when fully charged.)

The only downside that I can see is the difficulty of using the Xbox Live headset. The memory card slot is on the base unit, not the controller itself, so you have to sit near the Xbox to use the headset. If there was better XBL support (a communicator jack on the controller, as another reviewer suggested) I'd give this 5 stars.

Some other reviewers have disliked the button response and the feel of the analog sticks. All I can say is I didn't feel that way. I did notice that the face buttons weren't as sensitive as my stock Xbox controller; by that I mean I had to tap a little harder to get any response at all. But that was easy to get used to and now I don't even think about it. Every brand of controller is a little different, so you'll always notice something like that when you switch.

Unfortunately, I did get to experience Logitech tech support. One of the controllers I bought was dead on arrival. It was clear to me that the controller itself just wasn't working, but I had to explain everything to Logitech tech support and try their fixes. Once those didn't work, they did immediately send me a replacement unit. Getting a dud once in a while is inevitable... what matters is how the company handles it, and I have to admit that Logitech did a great job.

Based on this experience, I am looking forward to getting the Logitech cordless PS2 controllers too.

2GREAT!!!...for the first six months...Jun 21, 2006
By D. Couse "darkman1969"
This controller was fantastic. It worked great for Halo and all of the Ghost Recon's. Very sensitive and quick response. I absolutely loved it.

Then one day, it decided to start acting on its own. My characters started moving by themselves...planes started flying themselves. Very odd.

Slowly at first, I was able to correct the controller. A quick movement on the thumb stick or D-pad stopped the controller from acting on its own.

Now however, it's too far gone to bring back. For some reason the controller is stuck on the down movement. Nothing I do can fix it.

So now I have a cool looking paper weight. Do not buy this as it will fail. It is only a matter of time. If you don't believe me, look on eBay and see all of them for sale. Oh yeah, look closer. they are all refurbished! What does that tell you?

EDIT:
As an update to my original post, I've FIXED my controller. If you are having problems, try this. It is straight from the Logitech website (allbeit, buried in their knowledgebase)

Question
How do I calibrate the Logitech Cordless Precision Controller for Xbox®?
Answer

Normally there is no reason to re-calibrate the Cordless Precision for Xbox®. In rare cases where the mini-joysticks may need to be re-calibrated, you can use the process below. Please note that this process only works for the Cordless Precision Controller for Xbox®.

1. Remove one battery.
2. Hold the Left Trigger and Start buttons while re-inserting the battery. (NOTE: Do not touch or move the mini-joysticks at all during this time. It is very important that the mini joysticks are allowed to center themselves during this step or the calibration procedure will not be successful.)

The mini-joysticks should now be re-calibrated. Please note that in some cases you may need to resynchronize the gamepad and receiver after this procedure. For more information on resynchronizing this device please see Knowledge Base Article 457.

4Quick OverviewOct 18, 2004
By iHalo
I've had this controller for over a month now and generally I have to admit this is a very well made controller. I am a big fan of the Microsoft S Controller so that is what I will compare this product with. The games that I tested this controller with are: Halo, Ninja Gaiden, Marvel v. Capcom 2, Dead or Alive 3, and Guilty Gear X2 #Reloaded

FPS: (Halo)

Everything played generally well. The face buttons were more comfortable (flatter) than the S controller (which hurt your thumb if you press too hard b/c of rounded tops) and the shallower triggers did not affect my gameplay at all. However, although my hands are not that small, I had trouble using the left analog stick. The stick was placed a little too high for my liking and my hands cramped after a bit of playing.

Action: (Ninja Gaiden)

Everything responded beautifully and I could land my intercept moves (Hurricane Pack) perfectly. I had no problems performing combos. Again, the left analog stick still bugged me because of its placement.

Fighting: (DOA3, MvC2, GGX2 #Reloaded)

This controller is amazing for fighting games. I'm not really a fan of using joysticks and prefer d-pads. The d-pad on this controller is not only very comfortable, but also is very precise. I replayed all the fighting games that I owned and I could pull off moves that I never could on the Microsoft S-controller. Also, the white and black buttons are much easier to press.

I do have two issues with the controller though. Due to the pad's unusual groove in the middle, you have to press the x (blue) button a little more than you would think. Took some getting used to, but eventually I didn't have any more problems. Also, if you play Xbox Live you cannot attach a communicator to the actual controller. Luckily I play close to my Xbox so that wasn't too much of an issue, but if you usually play 10-15 ft away from your TV this could be a problem.

Pros:

- Wireless

- Good battery life

- Great d-pad

- Comfortable face buttons

- Accessible white and black buttons

Cons:

- Can't attach headset to controller

- x (blue) button takes getting used to

- left analog stick a little uncomfortable
